4 questions to Hieu @ Nedap Healthcare
Hi there, I’m Hieu! I’m a designer, and I’ve been working at Nedap Healthcare for more than three years. My work involves designing hardware and digital products, such as interfaces.
Why did you decide to work at Nedap?
During my studies, I founded a design agency with a friend of mine, Julian. We were asked by Nedap to redesign an app. The collaboration went very well on both sides, and they asked if we wanted to do our graduation project with them and work there. What I really like about Nedap is the great trust they have in people. This means you get a lot of responsibility, so people can perform at their best.
Can you describe a typical working day?
I’m involved in a lot of different projects. For example, I’m working on my own project, Nedap Luna, with a designated team. This product helps people structure their day, especially people in the early stages of dementia. I also work a lot on digital products, where I’m responsible for the user interface and user experience as well as the branding and concept. It’s exactly this variation that I really enjoy about my work.
“I want to keep making great things at Nedap; beautiful products that are really useful to people.”
What do you want to achieve at Nedap?
I want to keep making great things at Nedap; beautiful products that are really useful to people. A product has to work well, but it also has to be fun or easy to use and exceed the user’s expectations. I’d really like to see Nedap in a prominent position in the field of design, with products that are immediately recognised as a Nedap design, and understood at a glance. That would be pretty chill.
What does no one know about you?
I don’t really know if I should tell anyone about this, but I sing in the shower. My girlfriend isn’t always happy about it. I sing all kinds of stuff, Nick and Simon, Marco Borsato, Phil Collins, a bit of everything. I’m not even sure you could call it singing, maybe yelling would be more accurate. Besides my work, I love playing football, including indoor football. I play with a group of colleagues in competition against other regional teams. Other things I enjoy doing are playing board games and watching series or films.
Which way are you heading?
At Nedap, we’re not so keen on fixed routes: we prefer to challenge you to shape your own future.
