General
Nedap is a major global player in RFID technology, where we supply both hardware and software products. RFID technology uses license-free radio spectrum in the ISM bands, and because spectrum is scarce, many technologies are competing for the same bands.
The more spectrum is available, the better we can make the technology work. However, other technologies are competing for the same. The distribution of the available frequency space and the restrictions and opportunities attached to the use of these spectra are determined in international consultation and standardization organizations. As Nedap, we want to be aware of this decision-making, and where possible, influence it. In any case, it is important that these organizations are well informed about how the frequencies are used today, and what the consequences of decisions are.
As Advisor Public Affairs, you are the link between the standardization organizations and the internal organization. You ensure that Nedap colleagues are well informed about what is going on in international standards. They provide input on possible improvements and indicate what risks a change might entail. You build an international network of people with similar roles - both within RFID technology and competing technoogies.
You are able to understand (up to a certain level) what conversations are about, and translate them into possible opportunities or threats for Nedap propositions.
Concrete examples of tasks are:
- You participate in consultations within ETSI, CEPT, RAIN RFID, FCC and RED-CA, among others. These are both video meetings, as well as face to face on location – which can be all over the globe.
- You build an (informal) network of international specialists in the same field.
- You are well informed about Nedaps requirements for improving our technologies.
- You are aware of possible threats and challenges to the RFID spectrum, and can value them.
Your team
The position interfaces with all development departments within Nedap that deal with these technologies. Therefore, you will be supported by the technical experts from the various development departments. You will also maintain close contact with the relevant product managers and other stakeholders.
