What are you going to do?

As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will implement embedded software in our intelligent wireless low-power sensors. The sensors, SmartTags, collect minute behavioural data from cows and are at the basis of our innovative automation solutions for dairy farming. You will take on the challenge of using software to get the very best performance from the hardware in terms of energy consumption and processing of raw sensor data with respect to reliability and accuracy.

Your role as an Embedded Software Engineer offers a lot of variety; you are both developing new products and maintaining existing products. You think along at hardware and software architecture level and maintain contact with our production and test & measurement departments.

Your responsibilities

  • Validating proto- and 0-series electronics;

  • Validating software and resolving bugs;

  • Setting up and performing quality tests;

  • Writing documentation for product design and production (including in a PLM system;

  • Investigating and validating possibilities for alternative components.


Your team

You will be joining the Smarttag team within Livestock Management as an Embedded Software Engineer. This is a multidisciplinary team including a Product Owner, Embedded Software Engineer, Hardware Engineer, Mechnical Engineers and a Field Test Engineer. You will also be part of the Discipline Group of Embedded Software Engineers. Besides the substantive collaboration, we consider a nice informal atmosphere important; a pleasant chat over coffee or at the workplace is definitely part of it.

Required experience and skills

As an Embedded Software Engineer in the Smarttag team, it is important that you work independently and take initiative. You can see the big picture and are able to cooperate with colleagues both within and outside the team. With your organisational skills, you take a leading role in cross-team projects. In terms of content, you bring a problem-solving attitude, while keeping an eye on quality. You are good at zooming out and looking at things from different angles, and have an open mindset to keep learning.

Furthermore, you recognise yourself in the following:

  • You have at least 5 years' work experience in Embedded Software Engineering;

  • You have demonstrable knowledge/experience of hardware (analogue and digital) and can read electronic schematics;

  • You have thorough knowledge of C and affinity with Assembly (also in combination with ARM Cortex microcontrollers and digital signal processing).

  • You have a good command of Dutch and English;

  • Experience with MATLAB, unit testing and version management in Git is an advantage.

Good to know: You are available for 32-38 hours. We expect you to be in the office most of the time. Working from home up to two days a week is negotiable.
