Frontend Developer

What are you going to do?

Nedap Retail develops RF and RFID systems for retail. More than 100,000 devices around the world help retailers work more efficiently and customer-focused, prevent theft and provide customers with a better shopping experience. These devices are connected devices and are connected to our cloud software. There the devices are configured and managed by our customers and the extensive data from the systems is processed.

Our customer-facing applications are written in Ruby on Rails and are the beating heart of our connected devices architecture. Our systems are complex and the scale at which they are deployed worldwide is huge. This makes our platform unique and also means that usability plays a very important role, which we pay a lot of attention to together with our UX specialists. We want to provide software that our users enjoy working with.

You as a Frontend Developer will have an important role in future extensions and modifications to these customer-facing applications. You will help the installer have a nice experience when our hardware is installed. You give the user, through the right presentation, more insight from the data we receive from the hardware, such as detected losses. Ultimately, you ensure happy users. You are a specialist in front-end development, but don't shy away from the backend.

A key component you will work on is our Device Management solution. This will require extensive modifications and extensions in the near future. Another Ruby on Rails team is currently managing it. You think about the user experience, collaborate with the other Ruby developers and give the application the shape that makes the user happy.

Your responsibilities

  • Development: Designing and developing the frontend based on modern techniques;
  • User experience: Ensure optimal user experience by collaborating on UX specifications and creating user-friendly and insightful interfaces within the applications;
  • Data insights: Improving the presentation of data to give the user(s) more insight;
  • Ownership: You will be involved in the entire development and deployment of the graphical design that meets user requirements.

Your team

Your new team (Software Services) has recently split off to specifically take care of the connected devices cloud software and currently consists of developers with mainly backend affinity in terms of Ruby on Rails, Java and Kotlin. Your frontend expertise is therefore highly desirable.
