Mobile Back-End Developer (Ruby/Kotlin)

The Mobile tribe is responsible for a range of native mobile applications. These mobile applications help care professionals on-the-go with their daily planning, looking up client dossiers, administering medication, etc.

Your team

The Mobile tribe at Nedap Healthcare consists of Android, iOS, and multi-platform developers, supplemented by mobile UX designers and a mobile back-ender. In addition to that, there is a large community of back-end developers with whom you can talk shop. The Mobile tribe is international and consists of people working in Groenlo, as well as remote colleagues that work from home. You will communicate via digital tools like Slack and Zoom, or at our coffee corner in case you would like to work at the office. Since the team is international, our main language is English. For this position, both working in the office in Groenlo, as well as working remotely is an option.


The Mobile tribe is dedicated towards delivering the optimal mobile user experience for our end-users. To achieve this goal, we collaborate closely with each other and the other expertises within Nedap Healthcare (eg., UX, data protection). The team will expect you to be pro-active and come up yourself with back-end solutions for our technical challenges.


But there is more than just work. Working at Nedap also means taking the time to cool down with your team and colleagues while having drinks, playing boardgames during games-nights, competing in the annual football tournament, or playing a game of Magic after working hours. Every hobby is catered for! The Mobile tribe meets twice a year for a week in Groenlo to work together and share good times.

Required experience and skills

In order for our mobile apps to work properly and securely, it is your job to modernise our mobile back-end, by developing APIs and back-end services. You will do this in close collaboration with our other mobile back-ender and the back-enders in the other teams. We anticipate this task to take 1 to 2 years.


During this period, you will look which challenge within Healthcare you will tackle after this period. You are not alone in this; you will be helped by your captain. There are many tribes that could use an enthusiastic back-end developer and are happy to explore options with you. It is a great way to get to know the company and pick exactly what motivates you.


We are looking for someone who knows the ins and outs of the API landscape. Someone not afraid of making decisions, while being able to balance idealism and pragmatism. Someone who can sketch the future, but also the (migration) route to it.


Do you...

  • have experience with API and web technologies, infrastructure, CI/CD and server technology (for example: Docker, REST, etc.)?
  • have experience with Ruby on Rails and Kotlin, and related technologies (for example: Redis, Sidekiq, MySQL, RSpec)?
  • Like a complex technical challenge?

With our technology, they are able to spend less time on registering, planning, reporting, and drawing up care plans, allowing them to devote more time to their patients.
