Ruby-on-Rails Developer

  • Location Groenlo
  • Business unit Retail
As a Ruby-on-Rails Developer at Nedap Retail you will work in a team on a number of applications written in a combination of Ruby on Rails Backend and a Vue Front-end. One of the applications is used by retail employees worldwide to check the stock of their shops and make sure they have the right stock.
Last year - at the start of the corona crisis - we took on a project to use the data coming from our security gates in a different way. Retailers were only allowed to admit a specific number of customers into the shop. We then developed a completely new application in a few weeks, based on existing data streams. The solution shows on a screen how many people are present in the shop and whether more are allowed in. Many retailers still use this solution in their shops.

Nedap Retail develops innovative solutions for retailers worldwide. With our solutions for stock management and security, we guarantee retailers that they will always have the right product available for their customers. To achieve this, Nedap Retail develops state-of-the-art RF, RFID hardware and Cloud-Based software services. With this wonderful combination of hardware and software, we are able to provide shop employees, managers and the head office of retailers with the right information in an accessible manner.

Due to developments in the market, there is an opportunity to enlarge the ruby on rails team.

'The market we work in is cool. We are in the processes of the largest retailers worldwide. And how cool is it that thousands of devices communicate with your software?' (Eerde, Front-end Developer)

Your team

The Nedap Retail Services team is an enthusiastic group of colleagues with different development backgrounds, from front-end development to mobile development. Self-reliance and personal responsibility are of paramount importance to us. This means that you will search for knowledge and solutions yourself. The 'culture' in our department and within our team can best be described as free, open and social. What binds us is the passion to create user-friendly and technically advanced solutions, which our customers enjoy working with every day.

You also work a lot with the Devices team in Retail, which includes hardware, firmware and product engineers. The contact between these teams is good.

'We want to develop as a team and we are not afraid to make mistakes.' (Jaap, Team captain Software Services)

Our offer

Obviously, we offer excellent primary and secondary conditions. You are responsible for your own working hours and holidays. Nobody keeps track, as we rely on your own accountability. Moreover, we offer you the means to fulfil your own responsibilities. We also have a good financial arrangement. We offer an extensive introduction program and a personal development journey, and we will gladly look at your potential with you.

Required experience and skills

We are looking for a passionate Ruby-on-Rails Developer. We do not define experience as years of work, but as delivering quality. Do you have new ideas? Super good! We are always looking for ways to improve our products or things to learn from.

Furthermore, you recognise yourself in the following:
  • You have a minimum of a higher professional education level;
  • You have experience with Ruby on Rails;
  • Experience with Vue is an advantage;
  • You have a good command of the Dutch language;
  • You are prepared to work in an on-call service outside working hours.
Are you able to switch easily between different systems, tasks and teams? And do you think it is important to have good contact with your team members? We would love it if you would join us for a (digital) (non-alcoholic) drink on Fridays!

'The involvement in the team is very good. We look out for each other and are attentive. Even when we work at home during coronation time, we stay in touch a lot.' (Eerde, Front-end Developer)
