The Nedap Tech Platform strives towards supporting development teams with all aspects of the software development process like tooling, frameworks, deployment and insights. Our Infrastructure team plays a central role within the Nedap Tech Platform and is responsible for supporting development teams with hosting their applications. For this team we are searching for a SRE Manager who will not only focus on day to day operations, but also on bringing a clear vision on the infrastructure domain. In order to achieve an integrated and valuable experience for development teams, the lead will collaborate closely with the other teams as well as with the platform product owner. The Infrastructure lead will therefore also be a member of the Platform Core group, where we align on the bigger picture and translate the vision and stakeholder requirements into a cohesive product implementation.

Your role
Nedap is looking for an experienced SRE manager, to grow and guide a distributed team of engineers, with members in Europe and North America.

Although we expect a track record of hands-on engineering experience, this role is primarily a leadership and management role that demands a high degree of organisation, communication, and emotional intelligence. You must be comfortable being in a role in which you will not be contributing code.

The team must balance interrupt-driven work, priorities from external stakeholders, and internally-driven projects. Part of the manager's role will be in deciding on these priorities, formulating work plans, and communicating the commitments to the team and to stakeholders, and holding the team accountable to these commitments

What you’ll be doing:

  • Interface with counterparts on other teams to establish and agree upon priorities
  • Communicate those priorities to your team, and ensure the team’s commitments are met
  • Create a long term plan and guide the team towards its goals
  • Set and enforce a high standard of operation
  • Mentor engineers and work with them to grow and take the next step in their career
  • Help with work plans for junior engineers
  • Hire new engineers
  • Be comfortable not contributing code

Your team

The team is responsible for on-premise bare metal, VM platforms, and container platforms, as well as cloud offerings. It also manages and supports core services, including but not limited to databases, monitoring and alerting, centralised logging, and backups.

The current focus is on increasing and improving the automation of provisioning and managing these services, though there is still quite a bit of legacy infrastructure to manage and modernise.

Required experience and skills

  • Experience in managing a distributed team of 5+ engineers
  • A track record of managing projects to deadlines
  • Prior hands-on experience with the infrastructure supporting a high-volume web application, ideally with a micro-service architecture
  • Technical knownledge in order to understand what the team is doing and being a valuable speaking partner for other teams.

  • Container platform orchestration, e.g., Nomad, Kubernetes
  • Automation pipelines, e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions
  • Configuration management, e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Terraform
